What is Emotional Infidelity, and How to Recognize It?

Emotional Infidelity is what leads people into cheating, and some people consider just emotional infidelity as cheating itself. It's important to understand that there is more to relationships than just the physical, a healthy relationship will have a strong emotional bond as well. Having that strong emotional bond is what's going to keep people from going astray.

The emotional bond between two people is the heart of their relationship, that's why it's so hard for people to cope with emotional cheating. Like I said, there is more to a relationship than the physical contact between two people. The emotional ties are what makes two peoples feelings towards each other into a relationship, without them it would be nothing more than attraction. Relationships have high value when people can share their thoughts and inner person with their partner, that's what gives confidence in a relationship.

Emotional infidelity occurs when your partner forms emotional bonds with another person. It doesn't necessarily mean to fall in love with someone else, but to replace your emotional needs with someone else's. Most of the time this happens at the same time as when they're withdrawing from your relationship.

This is particularly painful because you have to sit back and watch as your partner replaces you with someone else as a friend and confidant. You've become a stranger in your own relationship as someone else's needs proceed your own. Most of the time it's hard to pick up on, we chalk it up to the fact that we're doing something wrong.

It's hard to prove that your significant other is having an emotional relationship with someone. There is little physical evidence that you can point to that without a doubt can make your case. Be careful to watch the sexual chemistry between two people. If you suspect that your husband has somet hing going for a woman from his job watch how they act together. Are they excessively flirting or touchy? It may even seem innocent at first but emotional infidelity will cause your significant other to act strange in one way or another.

With that being said, don't get too unreasonable. Everybody has friends, including friends of the opposite sex. So don't go accusing everyone of trying to destroy your relationship. Alienating yourself from your own friends or your partners is not a good idea.

One of the things you should look for is signs of guilt. Is your partner hiding something from you or acting strange? Think about the way you act when you've done something wrong, guilt follows us everywhere. If your partner was "just friends" with someone they wouldn't try and hide that person from you. Look for things such as your significant other going to hang out with this person but you're not invited, aren't you i nvited to other social gatherings?

Any kind of infidelity is easiest to deal with as soon as you can. The longer it goes on or the longer you put off confrontation there more damage is done. Sometimes if there was too much going on, or too many lies--there is nothing that can be done to save it. Thus, the importance of dealing with these issues as they present themselves.

Emotional infidelity is the warning sign, a flashing light that's saying "watch out, your relationship is headed for disaster!" How we choose to interpret that is up to us, but it usually means it's time to do something about it. Emotional cheating usually occurs before physical cheating, so make sure and catch it before it's too late.

Don't forget that two of the major warning signs of emotional infidelity are emotional detachment a nd secret behavior. If your significant other avoids relationship talks with you, certain friends when your around, and hides their cell phone these are red flags!

If you want any chance of saving your relationship you have to catch emotional infidelity in the beginning and fix it. It's always tough to fix a relationship after any kind of infidelity, sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is seek advice. It gives a lot of good relationship advice.
