I Am Proud of Kirk Cameron and Stand Behind His Ministry
I’ve never met Kirk Cameron, and I more than likely I never will. Yes, I know his sister Candace, but have never as much as spoken to Kirk himself. I’m in no way affiliated with his ministry; therefore I have nothing to gain by writing this; perhaps I have more to lose, unless however you count my loss as gain in Christ--I do. This is nothing more than one woman cheering on a fellow believer in the faith.
I wanted to stop for a moment to encourage people like Kirk and people like you who stand strong in the faith regardless of what it may cost. During a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Kirk was nothing less than courageous when he shared his views on homosexuality from a biblical standpoint. This is a difficult subject for anyone to breach, let alone an Evangelical Christian on a secular television show. After he endured an extreme attack from the media and the court of public opinion, who were determined to break his spirit, Kirk continues to stand strong on the biblical principles laid out in scripture.
I also believe that freedom of speech and freedom of religion go hand-in-hand in America. I should be able to express moral views on social issues--especially those that have been the underpinning of Western civilization for 2,000 years--without being slandered, accused of hate speech, and told from those who preach "tolerance" that I need to either bend my beliefs to their moral standards or be silent when I’m in the public square. ~ Kirk Cameron
Just like you and I, he must have days where he feels the sting of the pain. And no doubt, there are days when he’d rather stay in the comfort of his own home than step back into the scorching spotlight of public ridicule, but courage dictates he must. And so he puts himself out there time and again defending the faith that you and I hold dear to our heart. I am truly amazed!
There are countless martyrs throughout history that had it bad, and had it worse. And there are those who endure the same persecution today on a much smaller scale. I’ve seen fellow bloggers put me to shame by the way that they stood strong in the faith against the attack of onlookers. They show us all what it means to have courage. They show us all what it means to take up your cross and follow Christ regardless of what the cost might be.
In my book I talk about living a life of humility; about esteeming a spouse higher than ourselves; about turning the other cheek…, but to tell you the truth, that is nothing compared to the kind of humility that people like Kirk endure on an ongoing basis. Having much to lose, he counts all loss as gain that he might win Christ.
People like this teach us what it means to stand strong in the faith, and how it must be done despite the cost. A bruised ego is nothing compared to the pierced hands and torn body of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I set out writing this post about Kirk, but it’s really a call to each and every one of us to stand strong in the eye of the storm.
We can celebrate Easter by munching on chocolate and decorating adorable cupcakes, or we can celebrate it by reflecting the courage that our Lord Jesus Christ took to the cross.
Thank you for your courage Kirk. I am proud to ride beside you in battle.
What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ. ~ Philippians 3:8, NIV
You are loved by an almighty God,
Darlene
